Zach Osborne Title Clinching Scenarios

_DSC8805

Dragon motocross rider Zach Osborne is in the midst of an epic season. The veteran 250cc rider already clinched a Supercross East title in May, and he’s on the verge of claiming his first Pro Motocross Outdoor title this weekend. How will it play out though?

Heading into Budds Creek this weekend, the Rockstar-Husqvarna factor rider sits 63 points ahead of second place Jeremy Martin. To clinch this weekend (one race early) the magic number is 51. With two separate races (moto) worth a maximum of 50 points this weekend, Zach has his work cut out for him. Assuming the best case for Jeremy Martin (going 1-1 and gaining the maximum 50), Zach cannot lose more than 12 points, otherwise the title chase would officially continue until the circuit end in Indiana at Ironman MX.

Zach hasn’t gotten to this place by luck. His hard work and tenacity have allowed him to average an Overall finish of 2.3 per stop, meaning he’s a podium threat and not likely to lose much ground if J-Mart goes off. Zach also holds the tie-breaker in that he’s won four overall stops, and Jeremy has two (three with a potential win this weekend). While no one wants to count their chickens before they hatch, but can Zach keep the momentum rolling and the Cinderella season alive? Time will tell, but the odds are in Osborne’s corner.

Zach Osborne takes first career SX win in ATL

Under the lights of Atlanta, at the last Supercross race the Georgia Dome will see, 250-class rider Zach Osborne finally got his first win. With 45+ professional SX races under his belt, the young 250 rider not only got his first career win, but took over the points lead in the East race as the circuit shifts north to Toronto.

“Yeah, it’s pretty unreal,” Osborne told RacerX. “It’s amazing to come here. I won the KJSC here in 1998. It’s been a dream of mine ever since to win this race, and for it to be the last race in Georgia Dome … I could go on for an hour but it’s unreal. I’m grateful to be in this position to have this opportunity and just be where I’m at. It’s unreal.”

After two races in the East Championship, Zach takes over the points lead, two points ahead of Joey Savatgy. And at the official halfway point in the season, 450 rider Jason Anderson finished 4th (once again) and retains his 5th place points standing, but gets a ton of breathing from between him and the rest of the pack.

Next stop, Toronto where the Rockstar-Husqvarna-Dragon team seeks more podiums and points.
