MICK TRIUMPHS AT TRESTLES
…and sets himself up for a run at a fourth World Title race.
After winning the Hurley Pro at Lowers over the weekend and unseating Adriano De Souza from the top spot in the process, long-time Dragon athlete Mick Fanning has once again secured his place as the number one surfer in the world. With only three events remaining on the 2015 WSL calendar, Mick is gaining momentum as the World Title race heats up.
Complementing his yellow jersey, Mick can be seen in the Marquis sunglass from Dragon’s top-selling H2O Floatable Collection. With durable, impact-resistant Performance Polar lenses and a lightweight injected-moulded frame made to float in water, Dragon’s H2O Floatable Collection sunglasses are the perfect accompaniment to the fast-approaching summer season – ensuring you never again lose your shades off the boat, in the ocean, lake, or river.
Congratulations Alejo Muniz on your win at the Balito Pro and taking over the pole position on the WSL qualifying series! It couldn’t have happened to a more committed and nice guy. “I want to dedicate this trophy to my brother because he’s the one that is pushing me and he’s an amazing person, so I just try to be like him, a good person and really focus on surfing,” says Alejo. A huge congratulations to Mick Fanning on claiming his fourth WSL Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach title. Coming down to the wire, for the first time in WSL history the final finished in a tie and was ultimately decided on a count back with Fanning holding the highest single wave score for the final heat.
“Bells is a special place for me and it’s the first event I ever came to as a kid. The support and the crowds here are always amazing,” said Fanning after being chaired up the beach wearing the Dragon Marquis sunglasses. “Every time I paddle out I just want to do my best, throw myself into it and not have any regrets. Today is the first time a CT Final has ever been tied, which is radical.”
Fanning’s win ties Mark Richards and Kelly Slater with the most career victories at Bells Beach in the esteemed event’s 50-plus year history. It also marks his 20th career WSL victory, tying three-time World Champion Andy Irons.
“I’d never put myself in a category with MR (Mark Richards), Kelly Slater and Andy Irons,” said Fanning. “Those guys are my heroes. MR is a god, Kelly is a king and Andy is forever, it’s awesome.”
After the first two events of the 2015 WSL season, Fanning now shares the number one ranking, putting himself in a very good position to contend for his fourth World Title.
