For gate drop five of the 2018 Supercross season, Jason Anderson regained his winning ways as he battled Ken Roczen to take the win in a wild, no-holds barred contest in the Bay. Besides winning, Jason increased his overall points lead and the red plate will travel with him to San Diego next weekend.

Jason had a scary moment early in the day as he went down in the first practice. “At the beginning of the day—the first practice—I endo’d so hard… all day my back was a little sore and honestly it kind of scared me,” Jason explained, post-race. “I was very hesitant all day, and even in that heat race I was like a 5th place guy.”

Anderson managed to qualify in his heat race and take the win despite a mediocre hole shot where he found himself in 6th. But in the last lap, there were two lead changes as Jason battled his points trailer, Ken Roczen. “That battle at the end of the race was crazy,” Jason said. “We were both making mistakes and the track was hard to [hit] your marks… it was insane, but it felt great.”

Jason and his 15 point lead head south for the sixth stop of the season at Petco Park next weekend. Dragon’s 250 rider Mitchell Harrison finished 9th, an improvement over his first few races this year. He’ll have his work cut out for him next week as it’s the first East-West shootout so the field will be stacked with more solid racers including 250 East champion Zach Osborne and fellow Dragon rider Michael Mosiman.
